After two months of careful preparation and construction, the renovation and reconstruction project of the China Agricultural University West Campus Library has been successfully completed. This renovation not only improved the overall environment of the library, but also solved many long-standing problems, providing a more comfortable and intelligent learning space for the majority of teachers and students.

Background and Challenges

For more than 30 years, the library has been an important place for students to acquire knowledge. However, with the passage of time, this old library, which carries countless memories, faces a series of problems that need to be addressed urgently: mottled walls, aging facilities, low space utilization rate, dim lighting... These problems not only affect the reader's experience, but also make it difficult for the library to meet the growing learning needs. Therefore, the library has undergone a comprehensive renovation to address these issues and improve the reader experience.

Renovation Highlights

01. Intelligent Upgrade

To meet the challenges, we introduced a series of high-tech equipment in this renovation, including intelligent reading lamp tracks and intelligent reading lamp columns. These devices not only improve the lighting conditions in the reading area, but also come with modern charging interfaces to meet the charging needs of teachers and students for electronic devices.

02. Functional Expansion

Multifunctional Spaces: Based on the original foundation, the library has added a variety of functional areas, including exhibition and performance spaces, seminar spaces, communication spaces, digital reading spaces, and individual learning spaces, providing teachers and students with more diversified and personalized learning places.

Intelligent Management System: The new reading lamps, switches, and sockets all use intelligent control technology and seamlessly connect with the school's seat reservation software. When a user signs in, the reading lamp and socket automatically turn on; when they leave, they automatically turn off, effectively saving energy.

Convenient Facilities: In addition to the existing self-service borrowing and returning machines and lockers, we have also added equipment for borrowing e-books, silent telephone booths, and 24-hour self-service borrowing and returning machines, greatly facilitating readers' daily use.

03. User Experience Optimization

Humanized Design: Four-person reading tables are equipped with one 10A five-hole socket and one 1A1C PD20W USB power supply, and each seat is equipped with an e-ink screen for readers to scan the code to sign in.

Safety Guarantee: Single-person reading tables are also equipped with one 1A1C PD20W USB power supply and a touch-sensitive light switch button that supports long-press brightness adjustment. To ensure safety, all sockets have built-in overload protection, automatically cutting off power when the power exceeds the set threshold.

Data Management: By deploying a unified management platform, library staff can understand and analyze readers' usage in real time. This platform integrates advanced data analysis tools, allowing librarians to view key indicators such as usage frequency of various areas, reader stay time, and equipment usage status at any time. More importantly, the platform supports flexible permission settings and automated management, allowing staff to dynamically adjust the power supply parameters of various seating areas, such as power thresholds, according to actual needs, thus achieving efficient resource allocation and refined management.

Future Outlook

This renovation is our first step towards a smart library and a reflection of our continuous pursuit of excellent service. In the future, we will continue to strive to continuously improve the library's various functions and service quality to provide a better learning environment for all teachers and students.
